All former one-room school students, their families and friends, and all individuals interested in the history of education in Mercer County are invited to a one-room school reunion at the Beringer-Caldwell School on Sunday, September 13, 2015. Sponsored by the Mercer County Historical Society, this special event will celebrate a bygone era in education. Join us for this free event, which will include food, music, a look at the redecorated schoolhouse and its collections, and more.
The celebration will be held from 1:00-4:30 p.m. Cookies and ice cream will be served beginning at 1:00, free while it lasts, with music provided by Chuck Thorpe & Friends. At 2:30, a group photo of all one-room school students in attendance will be taken. The schoolhouse and Teachers’ Garden will be open until 5:00 for exploration.
Our CDs and DVDs of one-room school material will be available at this event. These discs are the result of a volunteer effort that scanned thousands of photos and documents from Mae Beringer’s collection of school items. Each CD will contain the entire archive of material for a single Mercer County township and will be available for sale at the schoolhouse or at MCHS headquarters for $10. The DVDs will be sold as a three-volume set for $60 and will contain the archives for all the one-room schools in Mercer County.
The Beringer-Caldwell One-Room School will remain open for the season from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays though Labor Day and after—if the weather allows. Please call the Mercer County Historical Society office at 724-662-3490 with any questions.
