John Buford. Jr. at Gettysburg

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, the Mercer County Historical Society (119 South Pitt Street, Mercer, PA) will present a program on John Buford at Gettysburg. John Buford, Jr. (March 4, 1826 – December 16, 1863) was a United States Army cavalry officer. He fought for the Union as a brigadier general during the American Civil War. Buford is best known for having played a major role in the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, by obtaining the ‘high ground’ while in command of a division.
Jim Carnes will conduct and moderate the program. The doors open about 6:30 P.M. The program starts at 7:00 P.M. and should end sometime around 9:00. Come, enjoy yourself, and learn something new!
The Civil War Discussion Group is part of the Mercer County Historical Society’s ongoing efforts to provide programming related to local history. This roundtable meets on the second Tuesday of each month from September through May. Participation in the discussion group is open to the public and is free.
