Civil War Roundtable: Politically Incorrect Civil War

Much is said about Robert E. Lee being a slave owner, but—did you know—U.S. Grant’s wife owned a slave?  Or that the number one slave trading State in the United States prior to the Civil War was—Rhode Island?  On Tuesday, March 11, 2013, the Mercer County Historical Society presents a program for our Civil War Roundtable titled “The Politically Incorrect Civil War.”  This program will be presented by Jim Carnes.  We will look at a variety of things you didn’t know about the Civil War.   The doors open at 6:30 PM; the program starts at 7:00, and should end around 9:00.  Please join us.

The Civil War Discussion Group is part of the Historical Society’s ongoing efforts to provide programming related to local history.  The roundtable meets on the second Tuesday of each month from September through May. Participation in the discussion group is open to the public and is free.  The Historical Society’s headquarters is at 119 South Pitt Street, Mercer.  For further information, please call the Historical Society at 724-662-3490.
