History in the Making

History in the Making.  We Look at the Presidents Cleveland through Taft—1885-1913. On Tuesday May 21, 2019, the Mercer County Historical Society will present it final program until September.  This month we will be looking at several Presidents from our past spanning the year 1885 to 1913 and including Presidents Grover Cleveland through William H. Taft.  During the times of great economic growth—the Gilded Age—Cleveland serves two non-consecutive terms, McKinley is assassinated, Roosevelt starts his Anti-Trust crusade, and Taft becomes estranged from his friend Teddy Roosevelt.   The program will be presented by David James.  The doors open at 6:30 PM; the program starts at 7:00, and should end around 9:00.  Please join us.  This event is FREE and open to the public. Annual Dinner

Mercer County Historical Society Announces its Annual Dinner The Mercer County Historical Society announces its Annual Dinner will be held on Saturday, May 4th starting at 5:00 P.M. in the Dr. James K. Sewall Genealogical Library in our headquarters located at 119 South Pitt Street, Mercer, PA. At 6:00 we will proceed to the Social Hall of the Helen Black Miller Memorial Chapel for dinner. The dinner will include a tossed salad, a chicken breast with stuffing, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, and rolls with butter. We will then continue with a short Business Meeting from 7:00 until 7:15 to elect our Officers and Board of Directors. After this meeting, we will have a presentation by Ms. Amber Farris, McKinley Memorial Museum Director, on “William McKinley Jr.: A Life outside of the Presidency.” Following her presentation there will be a cookie and punch reception, ending the evening. Mercer County Historical Society will continue its Civil War Roundtable. John Singleton Mosby On Tuesday, May 14, 2019, the Mercer County Historical Society (119 South Pitt Street, Mercer, PA) will present its final program until September on John Singleton Mosby—Confederate Calvary and Raider.
